Lest Best will close temporarily from Monday March 16, 2020

March 13, 2020

To limit the consequences of the current threat of the Corona virus, Lest Best will immediately stop teaching. All Lest Best students have been informed about this. The situation is reassessed every week and then will be determined whether the lessons can be restarted. We will inform you as soon as more is known about the situation or if there are changes in our policy.

We regret that this measure is necessary and we apologize for the inconvenience and any adverse effects of our policy. Unfortunately, we cannot take any other decision given the whole situation. We count on your understanding. Below we describe how we came to this decision.

In order to limit the spread of the Corona virus, various strict measures have been announced by the government. Events with more than 100 visitors are prohibited, travel by public transport is not recommended, people should work from their homes whenever possible, etc. According to Prime Minister Rutte, it is not necessary to close the schools. He cites the reason for this that the Dutch schools have a small risk of spreading and that closing the schools will lead to too many problems. Universities and colleges have decided to stop their education in the classrooms until at least the end of March. The reason for this is: 'Because there are adults, many nationalities and many entry and exit movements at universities and colleges, the risks there are greater.'

Lest Best is a school with a specific type of student: highly educated foreigners. There are more than 100 people in the building every day, from foreign descent and adult age. We must therefore follow the example of the universities and colleges, despite the fact that, according to the RIVM and the government, the schools do not yet have to close. It is unclear how the situation will develop in the coming weeks and that is why we as a school must take our responsibility and be on the safe side.

We understand that this measure is not convenient for every student or may be seen as unnecessary by some of you. I also understand that this may cause problems for some students. There are students with a tight schedule, who want to enrol in a college or university in September or who follow exam training and may have already scheduled an exam. Given the social worries, the great uncertainty about how it will develop, we are convinced that temporarily stopping the lessons is the right decision. This is to prevent teachers and students from becoming infected with the Corona virus at our school. We hope that it is also possible, once the threat of the virus has diminished, to restart the lessons in a short time and continue to learn the Dutch language. We are also looking into the possibility of planning additional lessons after the temporary stop of the lessons to make up for the arrears.
